Is your WordPress.org Website Secure?

I have been taking extra measures to help secure my wordpress.org website. I actually started in January – that was one thing on the very top of my list. I have since asked the folks at WP-Security-Lock.com to help secure my other site. Money spent – but I think well worth it! Especially if this will help keep my sites running 24/7 like I expect them too. Below is my testimony from January! Still very pleased with their service. I highly recommend WP-Security-Lock.

January 2010

15 Tips for WordPress SecurityRegina, from WPSecurityLock, helped me after I was trying to secure my wordpress website at http://StaciJansma.com. I was following Regina’s eBook “15-ways to secure your website” and found out that it was a bit harder than I first realized. I was following the steps but my wordpress website needed additional steps.

I reached out to Regina for assistance and asked her if she could perform the necessary steps as I was afraid I would do the wrong thing which shutdown my website and it was no longer available online. After emailing Regina, she was able to review my website and determine what needed to be completed. She had my website up within an hour with the purchase of her WP Security Service Package. It did take her about 48 hours to complete the process because she wanted to make sure everything was setup correctly. Now, I know my wordpress website is more secure thanks to the ways Regina stated in her eBook and what she did with the WP Security Service Package I purchased.

Security – How Secure Are YOU with Your Business?

I had the pleasure of discussing security issues with Regina Smola. Luckily I have not had the issues that some others have with their sites being hacked into, etc.

I thought it was funny back in October when I was listening to a webinar that Regina was a part of through Business and Learning – but now that I am more aware and when I go to visit a website and see that it has been hacked – I just feel bad for the owner of the site.

Now they have to go through and tackle their website and try to keep the hackers out.

I took the opportunity of signing up for Regina’s freebie report that provided me with a few tips of what I can start doing to my wordpress website. After I conquered those few steps/tips – I was ready for more. I want to try and keep the hackers out so that way it is one less thing I will have to worry about when I wake up in the morning and see that I can’t access my websites and either can the world.

So next I bought Regina’s 15 ways report. [You can find both reports at AskReginaSmola.com] I started to follow the 15 ways to help secure my wordpress and as I was going through the steps I started to become unsure of myself. The steps that were listed was describing what to do but after a few email exchanges with Regina – I found out that my website needed a few extra steps before I can do what she was suggesting.

I then just asked Regina – can you do this for me? There comes a point in time that I just have to say HELP! I was doing good but now that I was trying to change a few things on the back end I was afraid that I would mess up my website or do something that could not be unchanged.

Received an email and a phone call from Regina – YES! She could help me. Whew. Gave her my information over the phone and then she was a busy little bee for the next 48 hours. Not only did she get my website up and running with a few changes to add more security – she left the new and old in place and monitored my website before completely the switch over.

Regina gave me full customer service by providing me with helpful tips and pointers while she was adding the 15 ways that I could add MORE security to my WordPress website. Now I feel that I am unstoppable – and of course, any website can be hacked – and now I feel … it just depends how difficult you make it for them.

Thanks to Regina and WPSecurityLock: Check out my testimonial!

So – How Secure Are YOU with Your Business?

Adding a password to a file before emailing!

Thanks to Regina Smola at http://WPSecurityLock.com for helping me to understand why securing your information is so important. Why allow others to see or get into our website, our business. We need to step it up and take care of our website and our business otherwise we could run into similar security issues such as our entire site being hacked, funky things added to our webpages/coding, etc.

Here is what I learned from REGINA:

How to protect a compressed folder by requiring a password

You can restrict access to files and folders in compressed folders by requiring a password.

Important The password for a protected, compressed file is not recoverable. If you lose the password, you will be unable to access that file.

Note You cannot protect an empty compressed folder with a password.

To protect the contents of a compressed folder, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the compressed folder that you want to protect.
  2. On the File menu, click Add a Password.
  3. In the Password box, type the password that you want to use. Type the same password in the Confirm Password box, and then click OK.

Note When you try to move or open a file that is protected with a password, a Password Needed dialog box is displayed. Type the correct password in the Password box, and then click OK.

Works like a charm!
